Confident and Secure When Worlds Apart

Boarding Schools Admissions for International Students

Applying to a boarding school as an international student presents some normal family concerns.

When your child, adolescent or teen is in another country and many time zones away, you need confidence in their security.

It’s even more important as the family that you understand the school culture, the values the school embodies, and the other attending students on campus.

Boarding schools offer some of the most incredible educational opportunities you can imagine for you student. Some of the opportunities may include caring support staff and teachers; multiple clubs and various organizations; small class sizes; enriched academic opportunities; a vast array for extracurricular activities that include the arts, ballet, dance, music, robotics, sports (just to name a few);  support for learning styles that may be different and for students’s specific needs; warm and welcoming surrounding communities where kids know they belong; and even study and travel abroad. The right boarding school community for a student can be an outstanding place for an adolescent / teen to grow, mature, and prepare for college.

We work with all kinds of families and their students who are considering boarding schools.

Some have outgrown their current schools and need more of a challenge.

Others are in schools that do not understand their special needs or how they learn best. And still other students we have assisted felt overwhelmed in their big public school and then thrived when they felt accepted, cared for, engaged and recognized for who they are in their chosen boarding school.

Navigating the boarding school admission cycle is a particular process, from finding the best fitting school that meets the families and student’s needs, to completing the application and perhaps even a student essay, to visiting, interviewing, and then making the final decision. There are also logistical challenges when working with international families, such as getting teacher recommendations, test preparation, transcripts, travel arrangements, visas, etc.

We can help to manage all of these details and keep the process moving forward in a timely fashion. It’s often an emotional process and one where both parents and students appreciate having compassionate and dedicated professional help and support.

Here at Horizon Family Solutions we love working with boarding school students and families.

We have visited hundreds of boarding schools in the United States as well as some internationally, in order to assist you on your behalf. Boarding school placement is a robust part of Horizon Family Solutoins’ practice.

Dr.Frances has made hundreds of boarding school placements for children, adolescents and teens in the United States, and has continued to build her expertise in this area since 2001.

“Dore Frances was a found gift to us when we were looking for advice regarding our son’s need to transfer from his home school in Australia to a school in the United States. Dore helped my family shape what this would look like and presented several best options. Dore took mundane information and made us expand out what was really happening with our son. He definitely needed some clinical support in a college-prep boarding school setting. This change and support gave our son a much-needed boost of self-confidence when he saw his achievements coming to light. Dore also helped our son regarding academic class decisions, as well as gave advice on senior internships and how it all dovetails together. Dore can relate to both the parents AND the student!”

College 4“We are so grateful to have Dore in our lives during this very stressful time; we could not have made decisions about our daughter without her. What Dore does is amazing … it is really a talent. She has loads of energy, is available at difficult hours and we experienced the fact that she has tremendous resources. We have many rewards from working with her – and hope she continues helping families for a very long time.”
